Built by people who spent a decade inside independent pharmacy.

AccordRx started inside one of the largest pharmacy cooperatives in the US, where our team spent more than twelve years working with thousands of independent pharmacies.

Our story

A problem we couldn’t ignore.

Independent pharmacies had the inventory. Other pharmacies had the need. What was missing was a trusted, affordable way to connect them.

  1. Twelve years inside pharmacy

We heard the same two problems on repeat: capital trapped in inventory that would expire on the shelf, and patients waiting on medications the wholesaler couldn't supply.

  2. A trusted exchange

Pharmacies needed a trusted way to trade with each other. The options that existed charged fees so high they ate most of the savings.

  3. Wisconsin Innovates — 2020

The pandemic pushed us to act. We built a prototype for a modern, pharmacy-first exchange and entered it in Wisconsin Innovates, where it won the 2020 award for Technology Innovation to Address COVID-19 Impacts on Business. The grant that came with it helped get AccordRx off the ground.

Why buying groups

Trust was the product before the product.

Along the way we learned something that changed our model. Independent pharmacies don't want another subscription, another login, another vendor to vet. They want tools that come from an organization they already trust — their buying group.

So we rebuilt AccordRx around the buying group relationship. Groups provide the marketplace as a member benefit. Pharmacies join free and trade at a low 2% fee. And every trade a member makes reinforces the value of belonging to the group — which helps the group grow, negotiate better pricing, and deliver even more value back to its members.
